Academic recognition for DOI researchers

We are delighted to announce that three of our researchers received academic accolades that bear testimony to the high quality of research conducted at the Institute.

The University's Joint Appointments Committee promoted Jean Redpath (Africa Criminal Justice Reform) to Senior Researcher for her excellent research work in data analysis, which informs policy development, as well as for her research on criminal justice systems, which identifies, supports or measures reform in a number of African countries. In addition to this achievement, Jean also obtained her PhD this year, writing about the role of subnational governments in policing.

Usang Maria Assim, who works in the Children’s Rights Project and Tinashe Carlton Chigwata, who works with the SARChI Chair in Multilevel Government, Law and Development, were both promoted to Associate Professor. Their promotion was based on their substantive contributions to education and for their sterling record as researchers. This promotion makes Maria and Tinashe the youngest staff members at the Institute to become professors, which shows their dedication and determination to the objectives of the Institute, namely democracy, human rights and constitutionalism in Africa .

All three appointments will be effective as of 1 January 2021.
