Assoc Prof Usang Maria Assim

Maria Assim is a researcher for the Children’s Rights Project and has written and published on various aspects of human and children’s rights including the right to alternative care, child justice, and children’s socio-economic rights. She also serves as a thematic guest lecturer on a number of post-graduate courses including ‘Children’s Rights and the Law’, ‘International Family Law’, and the ‘International Protection of Human Rights Law’. As a children’s rights expert, she works in close collaboration with the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), the Committee’s partners and other civil society organisations involved with children’s rights in Africa and globally. Maria holds an LLB from the Obafemi Awolowo University and an LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria.
