Webinar on Student Hunger and Covid-19: Stakeholders roles in realising the right to food of vulnerable groups [1 October 2020]

The Socio-Economic Rights Project at the Dullah Omar Institute, University of the Western Cape, invites you to its second webinar in a series on ‘Student Hunger and COVID-19’. This series is organised by the Access to Food for Students Project at the Dullah Omar Institute, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Food Security. It seeks to address food insecurity in tertiary institutions nationwide through research and advocacy.

The first webinar identified students’ vulnerability to food insecurity, which has been amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. It sparked meaningful conversations on issues of students as a vulnerable group, the socio-economic constraints of food accessibility and the need for an overarching legislative framework on the right to food.

This webinar is aimed at identifying the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in addressing the impact of food insecurity on students. It aims to highlight collective solutions to addressing the food environment of students by extending the conversation to advocacy strategies and diverse approaches going forward.

This webinar series seeks to provide a platform for students, experts and civil society to share their experiences on the impact of the lockdown on student hunger and how they are navigating this challenge.
