Webinar: 2021 Local Elections, Governance and Stability

Friday, 4 September 2020, 10h00 - 12h00 (SAST)

The Dullah Omar Institute, in collaboration with the South African Local Government Association and the Hanns Seidel Foundation invites you to a webinar on 2021 Local Elections, Governance and Stability

Local government elections are set to take place towards the end of 2021. Parties and independent candidates will fiercely contest council seats, and aim to control South Africa's 257 municipal councils. It is not yet clear how Covid-19 will impact these elections and the parties that will compete in them. What we do know is that, during election time, municipal administrations are fragile, and local communities on edge. In this webinar we look ahead at these critical elections and discuss questions such as: What will be the critical factors to ensure a free and fair election? What impact do elections have on a municipal administration? What can we expect of political parties and senior municipal officials in the months ahead?

Speakers:
Mr Sy Mamabolo (Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC))
Dr Thina Nzo (Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI))
Mr Johann Mettler (Local Govt. Expert)
