Statement on the passing of former Chief Justice Pius Langa
It is with great sadness that the Community Law Centre heard of the news of former Chief Justice Pius Langa's passing. The former Chief Justice, a close friend of the late Adv. Dullah Omar who founded the Community Law Centre, was a pioneer of constitutionalism and one of the leading architects of our current constitutional dispensation.
In 2010, when he delivered the Seventh Dullah Omar Memorial Lecture, hosted by the Community Law Centre, the University community experienced his measured reasoning of unrivaled intellectual quality but also his warmth and his dry sense of humour.
The Centre wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time and it will continue, with even greater determination, to pursue the ideals that he stood for.
