Socio-Economic Rights Project Writing Retreat
The objectives of the writing retreat included:
- Boosting the research output of staff members.
- Equipping staff members with the knowledge and techniques of publishing in accredited journals as well as skills in uploading research output through the converis system.
- Providing tips and techniques for converting dissertation/ thesis into a book, book chapter or article
Some of the important presentations during the retreat included; ‘Tips and techniques for publishing journal articles and book chapters by Prof Kola Odeku, University of Limpopo, ‘How to publish consistently’’’ by Dr Robert Nanima, Faculty of Law, University of the Western Cape, ‘’Converting your dissertation/thesis into a book’’ by Prof Maria Usang, Acting Head of the Children’s Rights Project, DOI and ‘’Purpose and relevance of Converis’’ by Ms Keathelia Sapto of the Socio-Economic Rights Project, Dullah Omar Institute, University of the Western Cape. The participants at the retreat expressed great delight for the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills that was going to enhance their research outputs. The writing retreat aligns with one of the important strategic objectives of the Law Faculty, which is ‘’to nurture and strengthen the research culture in the Faculty in its pursuit of research excellence’’.
