Site Visits: Zebediela Citrus Farm Estate & Sunningdale Wine Farm in Limpopo Province

The first benchmarking visit took place in Zebediela Citrus Farm Estate. The delegation analysed literature on the Bjatladi Community Restitution Claim and the economic model employed between the community and the strategic partner prior to the site visit.

The meeting was thus to engage the strategic partners on the realities that confronts both the community and strategic partners in maintaining a sustainable and viable economic business that serves to benefit the community.

The delegates were taken on a tour as to how the packing house works and the intricacies of the operational side of the business. The pictures below demonstrates the benchmarking activities. The strategic partners also informed the delegation of the challenges confronting claimants post restitution.

This concerns the need for good governance practices, security of infrastructure, and a need for personal responsibility required from the community for the wellbeing of the land. If these challenges remain unaddressed it could have dire consequences as witnessed in the appalling state of the Sunningdale Farm.
