In October 2012, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights released a report (A/67/278) analysing the main obstacles impending people living in poverty from access to justice.

In October 2012, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights released a report (A/67/278) analysing the main obstacles impending people living in poverty from access to justice. The report highlights some of the obstacles that persons living in poverty face in accessing justice to include, lack of access to information, lack of awareness of legal rights, fear of reprisal or further stigmatisation and lack of financial resources which are directly related to cost of legal advice, administrative fees and other collateral costs.
