Scientists now know that there are thresholds beyond which species, ecosystems, biodiversity and life itself will fail. Pass these and it is game over. We might think about these thresholds as the foundations of “Nature's own constitution.” Can Science offer new ideas and categories that constitutional lawyers can use in building a “Constitution for Nature?” In this webinar we talk to environmentalist Jo Douwes about the work being done in Durban to understand and apply these thresholds and why protecting the environment and biodiversity is also closely linked to issues of human wellbeing and social justice.

Moderator: Prof Derek Powell, Dullah Omar Institute, UWC

Guest Speaker: Jo Douwes (Manager: Policy Implementation Branch, Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department, eThekwini Municipality (Durban))
