On 10 September 2020, the Dullah Omar Institute, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Food Security, hosted a webinar on Student Hunger and COVID-19: Realising the Right to Food of Vulnerable Groups.
We discussed three issues, namely; student experiences during COVID-19; the impact of COVID-19 advocacy strategies in relation to student hunger; and the role of chapter nine institutions in addressing student vulnerabilities. The panelists were Rhondelene Williams (LLM student at the University of the Western Cape), Dr Chantell Witten (Senior Lecturer at the University of the Free State), and Lindokuhle Mdabe (Research Advisor to Commissioner Sibanyoni at the South African Human Rights Commission). The webinar was attended by 42 participants from government, civil society and academia.
