Paleki M. Obur - South Sudan Women's Empowerment Network, Executive Director

Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan is largely gender-sensitive. TCRSS is gender conscious. Preamble TCRSS recognises the struggle to Southern Sudan's independence was borne by both men and women. It contains strong provisions that promise to empower women and bring about gender equality in the new state of SS. But a few areas, such as the extension of affirmative action policy to all government bodies, need to be addressed in order to make the TCRSS a formidable draft constitution.

About Paleki M. Obur
Paleki Matthew Obur is  passionate about women’s rights and she is an imminent activist. She graduated from the University of Juba’s College of Law in 2008. She is a member of the South Sudan Law Society. Paleki has advised on human rights and Media Legislation and sits in an Advisory Council to the Special Representative of United Nations Secretary General in South Sudan on Gender and Governance. She also is a member of a 20 Women taskforce monitoring the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Republic of Sudan and South Sudan. Currently, Ms. Paleki the Executive Director of South Sudan Women’s Empowerment Network (SSWEN), a national indigenous Network that aims to empower South Sudanese women, promotes Human Rights and builds peaceful societies in the Republic of South Sudan.
