Mohammed Valli Moosa participates in the conference’s plenary debate

Mohammed Valli Moosa has confirmed that he will take part in the plenary debate during the Constitution-Building in Africa Conference taking place on 6 September in Cape Town.

This session will be chaired by Prof. NicoSteytler, National Research Chair Multilevel Government, Law and Policy. The other participants of the debate are South African politician and businessman, Roelf Meyer, Dr Sidney Mufamadi, the Director of the School of Leadership at the University of Johannesburg and Prof. Yash Pal Ghai, the former chair of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission.

Mohammed Valli Moosa participated for the ANC in the Negotiations to end Apartheid. He was appointed Deputy Minister for Provincial Affairs and Constitutional Development of the Republic South African from July 1996 until 16 June 1999 and as a Minister Constitutional Development from 1994 until 1999, then as a Minister of Enviromental Affairs and Tourism from 1999 to 2004. He previously served as the Chairperson of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development. In April 2013, he was appointed the Independent Non-executive Chairman of Anglo American Platinum company.

The Constitution-Building in Africa Conference aims to provide a platform for the critical engagement with current and past constitution-making processes on the continent, drawing on the comparative experience of academics and practitioners.
The Conference is organised as part of the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition, hosted by the Faculty of Law (University of the Western Cape) and the Centre for Human Rights (University of Pretoria) from 2 to 7 September 2013.
