Government must end the impunity around torture, make special arrangements to prosecute gender-based violence, redouble its efforts to arrest maternal deaths and ensure that each child has a birth certificate. They were made as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 UN Member States. The Human Rights Council will review South Africa in 2017.
