Paula Knipe

Doctoral Researcher

Paula Knipe is a doctoral researcher with the Socio-Economic Rights Project at the Dullah Omar Institute. She holds an LLB and LLM (Cum Laude) from the University of the Western Cape. She is involved in several research, teaching and advocacy efforts on women's rights and gender equality, poverty, access to justice, sexual and reproductive health, legal food environments and non-communicable diseases. She also facilitates the lecture on 'Legal and policy frameworks to address diet-related non-communicable diseases' for the Socio-Economic Rights Module (SER811), offered in the LLM programme by the Faculty of Law, University of the Western Cape. She has published research reports, journal articles, made submissions to state institutions, and recently presented at the NGO Forum of the African Commission on Human and People's Rights in 2023.

She is currently pursuing her LLD, investigating the double burden of malnutrition among women in South Africa, focusing on rights-based approaches to non-communicable diseases.
