The Project has also assisted public institutions such as parliamentary portfolio committees, the SA Human Rights Commission and government-appointed commissions by providing research and making detailed submissions on laws, policies and programmes.
A selection of key submissions of the Project include:
- Submission to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Concerning the Relevance of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to the Commission's Mandate,1997, with the Development Action Group, Legal Resources Centre, Black Sash, National NGO Coalition, National Land Committee, National Literacy Cooperative, Peoples' Dialogue, Urban Sector Network and Centre for Human Rights.
- Joint Submission to the Portfolio Committee on Housing (National Assembly) on the Housing Bill, 1997, with the Centre for Rural Legal Studies, Legal Resources Centre (Cape Town), Surplus Peoples' Project (SPP), Development Action Group (DAG) and the African Gender Institute (UCT).
- Submission on the Report of the Lund Committee on Child and Family Support to the Portfolio Committee on Welfare (National Assembly), April 1997.
- Submission on Health White Paper with ANC Women's Parliamentary Caucus.
- Equality Legislation in relation to Housing and Health Care Services, and the inclusion of socio-economic status/condition as a prohibited ground of discrimination in equality legislation with the NADEL Human Rights Research and Advocacy Project, research reports prepared for the Equality Legislation Drafting Unit, June 1998.
- Joint Submission to the Department of Health with the Women's Legal Centre on the Draft Regulations Relating to AIDS Notifiability, 1999.
- Submission to the Ad Hoc Committee (National Assembly) on the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Bill with the Women's Legal Centre, November 1999. Submission by the Equality Alliance on the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair discrimination bill.
- Research provided to the Taylor Commission on a Comprehensive Social Security System on the constitutional framework and implications for social security policy reform in South Africa, 2001. See article below for more detail.
