Legal Resources Foundation

Legal Resources Foundation Trust (LRF) is an independent, not-for-profit Kenyan civil society organization that promotes access to justice through human rights education, research and policy advocacy.

The Legal Resources Foundation Trust (LRF) was established in 1994, as an autonomous project of the Kenyan Human Rights Commission. In the course of 2000 it was registered as a trust and became an independent legal entity.

LRF’s main thrust is in enhancing the administration of justice for the poor, vulnerable and marginalized in line with the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals.

LRF has developed innovative methods to raise legal, and human rights awareness among the young, underprivileged and the under-educated classes in Kenya. Its programmes consists of community-based paralegal training, theatre for civic education, legal and human rights education for secondary schools, production of educational radio programmes and publication of materials to be used in its own and similar educational projects.

LRF supports policy advocacy, paralegal work, strategic litigation, and a media campaign on access to justice in Kenya. More recently, LRF is placing paralegals in police stations and courts to increase immediate access for detainees to legal advice and assistance. LRF is in the process of drafting a national paralegal policy to regulate, train, and standardize the legal advice paralegals provide.
