Submission on the Implementation of the Geneva Conventions Bill B10-2011

On 14 November, CSPRI researcher, Gwénaëlle Dereymaeker, presented the CSPRI submission on the Implementation of the Geneva Conventions Bill B10-2011 before Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans.

The submission was written by CSPRI's co-ordinator, Lukas Muntingh and researcher Gwénaëlle Dereymaeker. The thrust of the submission was that the Bill lacked a definition of certain "grave beaches" of the Geneva Conventions, including the crime of torture, which could raise some interpretative issues in the future.

The submission also alerted to the fact that its current wording criminalised the entire content of the four Geneva Conventions and the two Additional Protocols.
