CSPRI releases fact sheet on segregation and solitary confinement in South African and International law
This fact sheet was prompted by media reports in July 2015 of prisoners being held in effective solitary confinement at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, in an unlit underground cell.
The news reports said the prisoners held in underground cells had limited human contact, were allowed only one hour outside exercise per day and were held for extended periods.
The fact sheet is available here.
